Special Type Shelters
Customizable Shelter Systems
Custom shelters are mobile system enclosures designed and manufactured entirely according to customer needs, without being limited to a specific standard size or configuration. The shelter design is developed from start to finish, taking into account the project's intended use, the platform it will be transported on, the electronic equipment to be integrated, and operational requirements. This approach ensures the most suitable solution for various applications such as defence, communications, radar, mobile laboratories, and field operation systems. In these shelters, dimensions, internal layout, mechanical structure, climate control, power infrastructure, and system integration details can be completely customized to the project. Elements such as rack systems, operator consoles, cabling infrastructure, data and power connections to be placed inside the shelter are optimized according to the usage scenario. This creates the most suitable structure in terms of both equipment safety and operational efficiency. Custom shelter solutions can be designed to be compatible with land vehicles, fixed installations, or different mobile platforms. Depending on the need, technical specifications such as environmental resistance, electromagnetic shielding, climate control capacity, and maintenance access are also determined according to project requirements. Thanks to this flexible design approach, users receive a customized, high-performance shelter solution that perfectly matches their systems.

Overview
Customizable Shelter Systems are solutions designed by Ozben Defence for applications where the standard ACE, NATO and ISO families do not meet requirements — with dimensions, interior layout, interfaces and subsystem configuration defined per project. Starting from the user's requirement document and mission profile, the customer procures a platform fully adapted to their mission, working with our engineering team as a single point of contact.
Why a Custom Design
Some missions fall outside the standard shelter envelope. Example scenarios:
- Large operator consoles that do not fit within the standard shelter height or depth envelope.
- Custom platforms outside container dimensions but requiring intermodal transport.
- Custom transport interfaces for helicopter underslung loads, C-130/A400M cargo bays or naval platforms.
- Multi-module systems that cannot be housed in a single standard shelter (side-by-side or stacked).
- Permanent shelters fixed to critical infrastructure but requiring shelter-grade engineering discipline in production.
Scope of Customization
A special shelter project typically defines the following topics together with the customer:
- Exterior dimensions, interior layout and weight distribution.
- Transport interfaces — corner castings, lifting hooks, tie-down points.
- HVAC and CBRN packages — capacity and interior pressure control.
- Electrical infrastructure — distribution panel, UPS, generator interface, grounding.
- EMI/EMC shielding packages.
- Seismic isolation and leveling — for sloped or vibrating sites.
- Doors, windows, service hatches and interior compartmentation.
Engineering Process
Special shelter projects are executed through an engineering flow consisting of requirements analysis → concept design → detail design → prototype production → environmental testing → serial production → site acceptance. Throughout the process, Ozben Defence acts as a single point of contact and shares design files, calculation reports and test protocols with the user.
International Standards
- NATO STANAG 2413 — Mobile shelter design requirements.
- NATO STANAG 4447 — CBRN-protected collective protection.
- MIL-STD-810H — Environmental endurance.
- MIL-STD-461G — Electromagnetic compatibility.
- ISO 668 — Referenced for container-compatible configurations.
Applications
- Mobile air traffic control towers.
- Border surveillance towers and critical infrastructure shelters.
- Custom-interface mobile cabins for naval platforms.
- Field hospital complexes.
- Compact mission units for special forces.
