Laser Warning Systems

The Laser Warning Systems family instantly detects, classifies, and locates laser threats on the battlefield, and its modular architecture provides early warning and complete protection on every platform, from soldiers and armored vehicles to shelters and fixed installations.

On the modern battlefield, laser-based target designation, range-finding and aiming systems provide the first (and often the only) indication that you have been targeted by the enemy. The moment a laser range finder or a laser-guided munition designates you, the attack is already being prepared; what matters is detecting that threat within milliseconds and buying personnel the time to take countermeasures. The Laser Warning Systems family consists of laser warning receiver (LWR) solutions designed for exactly this mission.

Product Family

The laser warning family is positioned in three classes for different platforms and operational scenarios:

  • Helmet-Mounted Laser Warning System

Lightweight, low-power solution integrated onto the infantry personnel's helmet. 360° threat direction detection with vibrating/audible alert.

  • Portable Laser Warning System

Portable system integrated into backpacks or tactical vests for special forces, reconnaissance teams and maneuver elements.

  • Vehicle-Mounted Laser Warning System

Panoramic array offering 360° coverage for armored fighting vehicles, tanks and armored personnel carriers.

How It Works

Laser warning sensors continuously scan the wavelength spectrum of laser threats common on the battlefield (0.5 – 1.6 μm, i.e. the visible and near-infrared band). When a laser beam strikes a sensor, the system:

1. Detects the threat at millisecond scale 2. Classifies the threat type — Laser Range Finder (LRF), Laser Target Designator (LTD), Laser Beam Rider (LBR) or coded pulse pattern 3. Determines the threat bearing — typically at 22.5° or better bearing accuracy 4. Delivers the alert — audible/visual/tactile feedback, optionally broadcast to the tactical radio or the vehicle battle management system (BMS) 5. May trigger a countermeasure — can operate integrated with a smoke launcher, multi-spectrum smoke or active protection system

This chain enables personnel or vehicle crews to react in milliseconds rather than seconds, creating the opportunity to take cover, return fire or trigger countermeasures ahead of enemy fire.

International Standards

Laser warning systems are designed in accordance with the standards defined in the defence industry for LWR systems:

  • NATO STANAG 4172

Laser warning receiver test and performance criteria

  • MIL-STD-810H

Environmental endurance (shock, vibration, temperature, humidity, ingress protection)

  • MIL-STD-461G

    Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC/EMI)

  • MIL-STD-1275F

28V DC power quality for vehicle integration

Applications

Laser warning solutions address a broad military use range:

  • Infantry team and battalion-level personal protection
  • Special forces and reconnaissance elements
  • Main battle tanks and armored fighting vehicles
  • Armored personnel carriers and wheeled armored vehicles
  • Light tactical vehicles and command posts
  • Critical infrastructure surveillance positions

Selecting the Right System

Key parameters for identifying the laser warning variant suited to your project:

  • Platform type

    personnel, light vehicle, heavy armored

  • Coverage angle requirement

    90°, 180° or full 360°

  • Alert output type

local only (audible/visual) or BMS integration

  • Countermeasure integration

together with other OZBEN systems such as smoke launcher

  • Power budget

    battery, vehicle DC, combined
