Technical Documents
The Modular Laser Warning System is a lightweight laser warning receiver (LWR) solution integrated onto the standard combat helmet of infantry personnel, detecting enemy laser threats within milliseconds. On the modern battlefield, when a sniper, an ATGM (anti-tank guided missile) operator or a laser-guided munition user designates personnel, the helmet-mounted sensors capture the threat and, through a short audible/tactile alert, enable personnel to take cover or maneuver.
What It Provides
- Direction of arrival: 360° coverage, typically 22.5° bearing accuracy
- Threat classification: Laser Range Finder (LRF), Laser Target Designator (LTD), Laser Beam Rider (LBR)
- Alert output: Short vibrating buzzer + in-helmet LED indicator
- Personal radio integration: Optional; broadcasts threat bearing to the team communications network
Why Helmet-Mounted?
For infantry personnel, mounting the LWR on the helmet delivers two advantages. First, the intersection between the personnel's head orientation and the laser threat is measured directly — in other words, threat bearing is referenced to the personnel's own head, requiring no separate calibration. Second, sensor placement is far less shadowed than on the shoulder or backpack; the helmet provides an open 360° base. These two properties make the helmet-mounted LWR by far the most efficient configuration for personal protection scenarios.
Technical Specifications
- Weight: ~250 g (including helmet clamp)
- Number of sensors: Typically 4 (0°, 90°, 180°, 270°)
- Wavelength range: 0.5 – 1.6 μm (visible + near-infrared band)
- Response time: <1 ms
- Power supply: Personal battery (CR123 or tactical Li-ion) — ~24 hours continuous mission
- Environmental: MIL-STD-810H compliant (rain, dust, shock)
- EMC: MIL-STD-461G
Applications
- Infantry team and battalion-level personal protection
- Special forces and reconnaissance elements
- Sniper teams (counter-sniper scenarios)
- Urban combat (MOUT) operations
- Border patrol and surveillance teams
Integration
The system can be mounted directly on standard NATO/Turkish Armed Forces combat helmets. It can also connect to the communications network via radio interface modules; the laser warning received by one member is thereby propagated to the entire team's situational awareness, delivering group-level threat detection.
