Tactical Meteorological Station Systems

Developed for vehicles, shelters, and fixed platforms, our tactical weather stations provide critical environmental data for fire control systems and ballistic calculations. It maximizes situational awareness and operational accuracy by offering real-time atmospheric analysis in the most challenging environments.

In modern military operations, the accuracy of indirect-fire weapons (artillery, mortars, rocket launchers, MLRS), sniper systems and guided munitions depends significantly on meteorological conditions along the trajectory. A 155 mm howitzer shell traveling to a range of 25 km can suffer tens of meters of deflection at the target from a 30 km/h wind or even a 10 °C temperature difference alone. Likewise, for a sniper engaging at 1500 m, a 15 km/h crosswind means a 25–30 cm shift at the point of impact. The Tactical Weather Station Systems family consists of sensor and data package systems developed to provide real-time ballistic meteorology data in exactly these accuracy-critical operations.

Product Family

  • Military Meteorological and Ballistic Data Station

Modular design suitable for tripod or fixed mast mounting; combines an ultrasonic anemometer, a digital barometer, a temperature/humidity sensor, GPS and an onboard processing unit on a single platform.

Measured Parameters

Weather station systems continuously monitor all environmental variables required for the ballistic computation:

  • Wind speed and direction

ultrasonic anemometer; no moving parts, minimal icing risk

  • Temperature

critical for muzzle velocity and projectile trajectory

  • Barometric pressure

    for atmospheric density calculation

  • Relative humidity

    particularly effective for IR/laser-guided munitions

  • Altitude and position (GPS)

reference point for the MET message

The collected data is transmitted to the fire direction system in NATO STANAG 4082 (artillery meteorological message — METCM/METB) or a project-specific custom format.

International Standards

  • NATO STANAG 4082

Artillery meteorological message format (METCM, METB)

  • NATO STANAG 4174

Artillery fire control data exchange (ATCCS)

  • MIL-STD-810H

Environmental endurance (vibration, shock, temperature, humidity, ingress protection)

  • MIL-STD-461G

Electromagnetic compatibility (interoperability with radar/communications systems)

Applications

  • Artillery battalion/battery meteorological support

105 mm and 155 mm howitzers

  • Mortar batteries

    60 mm, 81 mm, 120 mm

  • MLRS fire direction

    TR-300, MRLS families

  • Sniper teams

    long-range accuracy computation

  • ATGM and guided munition support

    launch meteorology

  • Military air traffic control

    heliport and battalion level

  • Airdrop computation

    parachute resupply drop point

Why Military Grade?

Unlike civilian meteorological stations, military use imposes the following additional requirements:

  • MIL-STD-810 environmental

desert, arctic and tropical climate compatibility

  • EMC compatibility

operation near command centre radar/communications equipment

  • STANAG-compliant data output

direct integration into the NATO-standard fire direction chain

  • Ultrasonic anemometer

free of the icing/freezing issues of traditional cup anemometers, with low failure rate

System Selection

Parameters to evaluate for a tactical weather station configuration:

  • Use profile

fixed battalion meteorological station, portable, vehicle-mounted

  • Data output format

NATO STANAG 4082 / custom BMS protocol

  • Connection type

    RS-422/485, Ethernet, tactical radio

  • Power budget

fixed grid, vehicle 24V DC, battery (long-duration mission)

  • Mounting

    tripod, mast-mounted, fixed tower
